Frequently Asked Questions
How do I know when it's time for a checkup?
Regular checkups and cleanings are vital to maintaining your healthy smile. As a general rule, we recommend professional cleanings every six months. Daily flossing and twice daily brushing will help keep your gums and teeth in tip top shape!
If my gums bleed when I brush, should I be worried?
Although a common cause of bleeding gums are patients brushing too hard, bleeding gums can also be a sign of a larger problem. Bleeding gums can indicate early-stage gingivitis, called gum disease. If your gums show signs of gingivitis, we may recommend a deep hygiene treatment to stop the disease and return your gums to good health. Gum disease is the number one cause of tooth loss for American adults. It has been linked to many health problems including stroke and heart attack. Left untreated, gum disease can escalate to significant oral damage and overall health decline. Please call Canepa Dental at 360-514-0707 for an appointment.
What should I expect at my first appointment?
As a new patient, you'll first have x-rays taken to determine overall tooth health. Then our dental hygienist will thoroughly clean your teeth. Next, Dr. Canepa will examine your teeth and gums. This is the time to discuss with Dr. Canepa your particular smile goals! Dr. Canepa will then advise you on the best course of treatment for you. Remember, at Canepa Dental, we strive to treat every patient as if they were a member of our own family!

  How long do veneers last?
Porcelain veneers are one of the quicket ways to achieve a “Hollywood” smile. Although they can't be expected to last forever, they will last for many years; between 10 - 12 on average. As with any tooth, your veneers need to be brushed and flossed daily and regular professional cleanings are a must. You should avoid biting your fingernails, chewing on ice, and biting other hard items as this can chip or dislodge your veneer.
Does your office do teeth whitening?
Yes! At Canepa Dental we use the Zoom! whitening method to whiten and brighten your smile. Take the first step in feeling good and looking great with brighter, whiter teeth in less than an hour. Zoom! teeth whitening is safe, effective and very fast, and can only be performed by a dental professional. When you schedule your appointment, be sure to ask about our tooth whitening procedure!
